Philip Manankov on Why Local Impact is the Ultimate Hiring Enabler

Concluding the Doers Podcast series powered by FastForward, Pavlos sat down with Philip Manankov, Global Head of Talent Acquisition at Exness, for an unfiltered look at what it takes to build a world-class workforce in Cyprus. Moving past standard corporate metrics like office footprints and global team sizes, Manankov unpacked how modern international employers must shift their focus toward local ecosystem integration. He emphasized that true internationalism relies entirely on giving regional offices authentic authority and deeply understanding the cultural dynamics of the local market.

Addressing the fierce competition for skilled professionals, Manankov directly challenged traditional corporate social responsibility playbooks.  He argued that hiring locally first and investing in homegrown tech talent pipelines is no longer optional, but a strategic investment in building a sustainable workforce.

"Talent pools are limited. Extracting from the local market without giving something back, without developing and investing in it, means we will run out of resources in three years. It’s not corporate social responsibility, it’s a hiring enabler right now."

The conversation also dove into the realities of navigating high-stakes corporate expansion and the common blind spots companies face when entering new territories, such as over-relying on relocated expats instead of building local trust. To survive these high-pressure environments long-term, Manankov explained that employers must explicitly prioritize psychological safety alongside business metrics.

"Twenty years ago, no one was talking about psychological safety in the workplace. Currently, if you don't have that safety, you have no workforce."
