Anastasiades to Testify on "Mafia State" – What’s Next and When to Expect the Final Report

Three-Day Testimony Scheduled for April 28–30 as Committee Investigates Claims Made by Journalist Makarios Drousiotis

One week after Easter, on April 28, 2025, former President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades will testify before the Inquiry Committee established to investigate the allegations made by journalist and author Makarios Drousiotis in his book Mafia State.

As Offsite reports, Anastasiades' testimony will span three days, with April 29 and 30 also scheduled as available dates. If necessary, the former president will appear again before the Committee on May 2, 2025.

Anastasiades will bring his recently published book, The Slanderer, as supporting material. Released in March, the book serves as a response to the accusations made against him in Drousiotis’ publications. According to official sources, Anastasiades plans to directly counter the claims made by his former associate at the Presidential Palace, using his book as a reference point.

It is also noted that Anastasiades has filed a lawsuit against Makarios Drousiotis.

Final Depositions Ahead of Committee's Conclusion

All remaining witnesses are expected to testify by April 28, completing the Committee’s investigation.

The final report will be submitted to the Commissioner Against Corruption, Haris Poyadjis, who will review it and, according to sources, issue a decision within May—without delays—on whether criminal offenses have been identified. If criminal activity is confirmed, the report will be forwarded to the Attorney General. If not, it will remain archived within the Authority.

The Inquiry Committee tasked with examining the claims made in Mafia State and Drousiotis’ accusations consists of the following members:

  • Gabrielle McIntyre, Legal Expert from Australia

  • Charilaos Chrysanthou, Lawyer

  • Orestis Nikitas, Lawyer

  • Andreas Efthymiou, Lawyer
