Christodoulides’ First Comments on Video Alleging Campaign Financing

“I will not allow anyone to give me grounds to be accused of corruption.”

President Nikos Christodoulides addressed journalists today upon his arrival at an event, issuing his first public comments regarding the controversy surrounding alleged campaign financing.

In remarks to the press, the President called on anyone who possesses information relating to direct or indirect financial support during his pre-election campaign, as well as during his term as President of the Republic, to submit it immediately to the competent state authorities.

“I have said this many times, and I repeat it today,” Christodoulides said. “I will not allow anyone to give me grounds to be accused of corruption.”

Christodoulides also responded to criticism linked to the government’s efforts to attract foreign investment, emphasising that the policy has been pursued since the first day of his presidency and will continue, as he said, in the country’s interest.

He pointed to recent announcements as evidence of progress, referring to American investments in Cyprus announced following his recent visit to the United States.

“I am pleased because this effort is delivering results,” he said.

Within the framework of these investments, the President stressed that companies operating in Cyprus are expected to contribute socially through corporate social responsibility initiatives. According to Christodoulides, such contributions benefit the state and are being made in areas including healthcare, social welfare, defence, and other sectors.
