Cypriot content creator, YouTuber, TikToker (and MEP) Fidias Panayiotou has officially announced the creation of his own political party, called “Direct Democracy”, in a video shared on his social media platforms. Appearing with a red clown nose, Panayiotou described the moment as “the most important announcement of my life.”

Panayiotou, who was elected to the European Parliament in 2024 as an independent, said his experience taught him that “one person alone cannot change the system.” His new political movement, he explained, aims to be completely different from traditional parties, focusing on collective decision-making, transparency, and participation.

According to Panayiotou, the party’s goal is not merely to “slap the system,” but to transform it from within, introducing a new model of democracy based on constant citizen engagement.

Panayiotou admitted that his project is experimental and that “it could fail,” but insisted that it will “definitely shake things up” and could even “spark a new kind of democracy — not just in Cyprus, but possibly beyond.”

The Cypriot MEP invited people to join the process and help shape the movement collectively: “What we’re trying to do has never been done before. I want us to build it together, step by step,” he said.

He ended his announcement by thanking his supporters: “I love you all from the bottom of my heart, and I’m excited for this new beginning.”
