96% of Income Statements Submitted by October 28

Robust Completion Rate When Compared to the Previous Year’s Data

As of Saturday, October 28, 99% of the personal income declarations for the 2022 tax year have been processed, according to Tax Commissioner Sotiris Markidis. This figure shows a robust completion rate when compared to the previous year's data. Markidis revealed that of these processed declarations, 96% (approximately 264,000 taxpayers) have finalized their submissions through the Taxisnet system.

Markidis highlighted the smooth progression of income statement submissions via Taxisnet, noting no significant issues encountered. He reminded that the deadline for final submission is October 31, 2023. The requirement to submit a personal income declaration applies to employees, pensioners, and self-employed individuals whose total gross income for 2022 exceeds €19,500.

Specifically, Markidis said that about 277,000 taxpayers had processed their declarations by October 28, 2023, with approximately 264,000 having completed their final submissions and about 13,000 in temporary receipt. He stressed the importance of final submission to consider a declaration officially submitted.

Last year, for the 2021 tax year, approximately 275,500 personal income declarations were definitively submitted by the deadline, with around 4,000 remaining in temporary status.

Markidis warned of a €100 fine for late submissions and urged the small percentage who have yet to submit their declarations, despite being obliged to do so, to act quickly as the October 31, 2023 deadline for submission and tax payment is approaching.

The 2022 Declaration maintains all the automated features introduced in recent years for quicker and easier completion by taxpayers. This includes automatic data retrieval from the General Accounting Office and Social Insurance Services for pensioners and self-employed individuals, as well as automatic calculations of totals, income tax, General Health System contributions, and Special Defence Contribution.

For the year 2022, a new feature has been added. Markidis highlighted that at the final stage of declaration completion, once submitted definitively, there's a link guiding the taxpayer to immediately settle any tax liabilities that automatically arise with the submission.

Additionally, after the final submission of the declaration, the tax liability is automatically recorded on the Tax Portal and appears in the Debt Status section, Markidis added.
