High AI Use Among Cypriots - What the Data Show
Nearly one in two Cypriots used generative AI tools in the past three months, with Cyprus leading the EU in personal use.
Cyprus is emerging as one of the European Union’s most intensive users of generative artificial intelligence, according to new data published by Eurostat on digital technology use among individuals.
The figures show that 44.2% of people aged 16–74 in Cyprus used generative AI tools in the past three months, placing the country 7th among EU member states. This compares with an EU average of 32.7%.
Cyprus stands out most clearly in the use of generative AI for private purposes. At 43.3%, it ranks first across the EU, indicating that personal, everyday applications — such as information searching, content creation, and personal assistance — are driving much of the country’s AI uptake.
Use of generative AI in professional settings is also relatively high. Around 22.6% of Cypriots reported using AI tools for work-related purposes, again placing Cyprus 7th at EU level. While still below personal use, the figure suggests a growing integration of AI into workplaces, particularly in knowledge-intensive and service sectors.
In formal education, Cyprus ranks 6th in the EU, with 14.5% of people using generative AI tools for learning or study purposes. This places the country well above several larger member states and reflects the increasing role of AI in education and skills development.
Across the EU as a whole, Eurostat reports that most users engage with generative AI for private purposes (25.1%), followed by work (15.1%) and formal education (9.4%). The highest overall usage rates were recorded in Denmark, Estonia and Malta, while Romania, Italy and Bulgaria recorded the lowest levels of adoption.
